Insights from Anand Pillay

The road thus far has been a challenging, yet exiting journey and I have grown by leaps and bounds through my interactions with all my clients and the voluminous number of complicated cases that I have worked on.

It has been through these interactions that I have found my niche and have developed a passion for criminal law and being a defence attorney. I have realised that being a defence attorney is no easy feat and that attorneys have a very important role to play in ensuring a fair trial for accused persons. I spend a considerable amount of time exploring different avenues and various possibilities. Intensive research has to be conducted, in order to find precedents and case law which have bearing on the case before I can persuasively present my client’s case and argument. High levels of integrity must be displayed at all times.

What makes my job exciting and interesting is that no two cases are the same and I meet clients from various walks of life. It takes someone with commitment, perseverance, good communication, analylical skills and dedication to be successful in the legal field. The market is becoming saturated and my advice to the upcoming attorneys is to work tirelessly and make great sacrifices so as to make your mark and earn a good reputation.
